Paid, and the amount is published

The most distinctive thing about this region. Two Dutch employers state the monthly allowance on the posting itself: 750 euro per month at one, and 700 euro per month for a thirty six hour week at another. Whether or not those figures suit you, the practice of publishing them is regional and it lets you plan rather than guess.

Year round rather than dated

One Amsterdam bank states that it accepts applications throughout the entire year, with starts from January 2027 onwards. There is no window to miss, which changes the strategy: apply when you are ready rather than when a calendar says so.

Three to six months

Verified durations run from a three month placement at one Amsterdam adviser to a minimum of four months at a Dutch bank and three to six at a Brussels house. Shorter than France, longer than the Nordics.

A case study in the process

One Brussels firm describes a screening, an interview and a case study. Where a European process includes a case, it is usually named on the page, so read the process description as a preparation list.

Where the roles are

• Amsterdam carries the large Dutch banks and the independents. Brussels is a separate market with its own language expectations rather than an extension of the Dutch one.
• Antwerp appears alongside Amsterdam on at least one adviser we checked, and a Belgian house may run a Brussels process while listing Frankfurt on the same board.
• The large Dutch banks post many roles, most of which are not investment banking. One bank's board carried hundreds of open positions across the group when we looked, so filtering matters more here than in markets with a handful of postings.

When to apply

• Less calendar driven than most of Europe. The clearest statement we found is applications accepted throughout the entire year for starts from January 2027 onwards.
• Because several routes are permanently open, the constraint here is not timing but that a route can quietly have no live vacancy behind it. One adviser's intern page was live while its own applicant tracking system held five roles and none of them an internship.

Language requirements

• It varies by role rather than by country, which is the practical point. One Amsterdam adviser requires strong communication in Dutch and English. One Dutch bank role requires excellent skills in both English and Dutch. But another role at a different Dutch bank states strong communication skills in English only, with no Dutch requirement anywhere on the page.
• Do not infer Dutch from an Amsterdam address. One of the roles we verified explicitly does not ask for it.
• Brussels adds a third language. One Belgian posting asks for proficiency in Dutch and English with knowledge of French a plus, which is the Belgian reality expressed as a job requirement.

What a local applicant knows

• One Dutch bank requires enrolment at a Dutch or EU university for the duration of the placement. That is an eligibility gate rather than a preference, and it is the kind of condition that appears halfway down a posting rather than at the top.
• Postings at the large Dutch banks disappear cleanly and completely. Five Amsterdam roles we checked had all been removed outright, and we confirmed the URLs were still valid by loading a live posting through each of the same three link shapes. When a Dutch bank role is gone, it is gone.
• One bank's own search index still listed a removed posting, word for word, after the role's page had stopped existing. Trust the posting page over the search results, including the employer's own search results.

What this page cannot tell you

• Everything above was observed on official postings on 7 August 2026. Nothing is inferred from general knowledge about this market, so where an employer stated nothing, this page says nothing.
• The employer's own page is the source of truth. Roles are filled, withdrawn and re-dated without notice.
• Coverage reflects firms whose recruiting is publicly documented, which under-represents smaller boutiques that hire through networks.
